Program of the tour to Dendera Temple
We will pick you up from your hotel in El Gouna at approximately 6:00 a.m. in an air-conditioned vehicle. Explore this magnificent temple, away from mass tourism and accompanied by a trained German-speaking Egyptologist.
We then drive about 220 km towards Dendera. Dendera (Dandara) is a town on the Nile and is known worldwide for the temple of the goddess Hathor from Ancient Egypt. Dendera is one of the best-preserved temple complexes in Egypt and was dedicated to the goddess Hathor, the goddess of joy, beauty, maternal qualities, and love, healing, and beauty in ancient Egypt. Hathor is equated with Aphrodite in the Greek and Ptolemaic periods and Venus by the Romans.
In Dendera, you will then visit the Holy Lake, the sanatorium, and the Mammisi. There are fascinating insights into the encounter of a great civilization with a very famous wall relief of Cleopatra VII and her son, whom Julius Caesar probably fathered. Other depictions of the Roman emperor make this a who's who of antiquity.
Your guide will then show you the really beautiful astronomical displays on the ceiling and the enigmatic reliefs in the temple crypt. When the first Hathor temple was built, several villages appeared around it, after which the area was called “Ta-Int-Neter”, which means something like “she (= the goddess Hathor) is a divine support” . Judging by the deciphered hieroglyphic inscriptions, the Egyptians are very sure that the name of the city was given by the goddess. The Dendera Temple was an astronomical study center in ancient times.
