Current Coronavirus Rules in Hurghada for travelers with a vaccination certificate

The current new Corona Virus rules in Hurghada, Egypt for vaccinated travelers with a vaccination certificate or a Corona Virus test: What should you pay attention to when entering and leaving all airports in Egypt?

Incoming passengers with a Corona vaccination certificate

  • Passengers arriving with a COVID-19 vaccination certificate from countries that are not from a mutation area or have not been in one within the last 14 days must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination. This can be done with a valid vaccination certificate or a recognized vaccination app (Corona-WarnApp, CovPass, Luca).

  • Only vaccines approved by the World Health Organization or the Egyptian Medicines Agency are accepted. The second vaccination is fully effective from day 15; for Johnson & Johnson, this is day 15 after the first vaccination.

  • For travelers with proof of vaccination who have been in areas with a high incidence of COVID-19 within the last 14 days (currently India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Brazil, and Latin America), the following procedure applies: Upon arrival, the vaccination certificate will be checked and a COVID-19 ID test will be administered. In the event of a positive test result, the traveler will be taken to a COVID-19 hospital or a quarantine hotel. Travelers who have not been vaccinated will be deported.

  • Vaccinated passengers entering the country no longer need a PCR test.

Unvaccinated travelers

  • Every unvaccinated person entering the country must have a negative PCR test forCOVID-19Passengers must present a PCR test certificate issued in their home country no more than 72 hours before departure for Egypt. Passengers traveling from North America, South America, Japan, Canada, Thailand, China, Paris, Heathrow, Frankfurt, and London may have the test performed up to 96 hours before departure for Egypt due to the long flight times and the number of passengers. Children under six years of age are not required to have a PCR test.

  • All travelers should undergo a PCR test before arriving at Cairo International Airport.

  • The PCR test must be printed, signed and stamped by the health authorities that issued it.

  • The PCR test must have a QR code, and the method of sample collection (swab sampling) must also be specified. All travelers should observe and follow all precautionary measures during their trip.

  • All transit passengers via Cairo Airport must possess a negative PCR test, even if their final destination does not require a negative PCR test.

  • Passengers arriving at Hurghada, Sharm El-Sheikh, Taba, or Marsa Alam airports who do not have a PCR test result prior to arrival can have one performed upon arrival at the airport at their own expense for USD 30. These passengers must then quarantine in their hotel room until the test result is available. In the event of a positive test result, the traveler must remain in their hotel room until further instructions are issued by the Ministry of Health.

The requirements for an accepted PCR certificate.

  • The PCR testThe form must include the exact date and time of sample collection. Sample collection may take place no earlier than 72 hours before departure for Egypt.

  • The PCR test must be issued by an accredited laboratory, printed, signed and stamped by the authorized laboratory.

  • The PCR certificate must not contain any corrections, additions, or deletions.

  • The PCR certificate must contain a QR code from the country that issued the certificate.

  • The PCR certificate should show that the sample type was taken directly with the swab.

  • The PCR certificate should specify the type of test, whether RT or PCR.

  • The PCR certificate is accepted in both English and Arabic.

  • A negative PCR certificate becomes invalid if used outside of Egypt. A new certificate is required for re-entry.
