The Red Sea is an arm of the Indian Ocean located between Asia and Africa. It stretches from Suez in Egypt, initially as the Gulf of Suez, down about 1930 kilometers to the Strait of Mandeb, which connects with the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea. The coasts of Egypt, Sudan, and Eritrea are on one side of the sea, while Saudi Arabia and Yemen border the other side. The Gulf of Aqaba, which extends to southern Israel and southwestern Jordan, is a northeastern extension of the sea.
